255 MRL - 1961 Austin Gipsy LWB L4P (Light Four Wheel Drive Pump)

Supplied new to Cornwall County Fire Brigade in July 1961 and allocated to Newquay A5. This was the first long wheel base Gipsy that Cornwall used, and photographs show that it originally had flexitor independent suspension, but later pictures show it with leaf spring units. Whether this indicates that the chassis was changed, or if a major rebuild was carried out is unknown. The roof mounted racking for the suction hose on this appliance appears to be of alloy construction - later long wheel base Gipsies had a fibre-glass mounting as part of the roof moulding. Out of service by May 1981. Then went to the Gweek Seal Sanctuary.
